Best Practices in Navigating Income, Sales, Use, UBIT and Charitable Registrations

As not-for-profit organizations look to attract and retain great talent, individuals may be hired to work beyond the organization’s home state. Depending on the activities of the employee, this may trigger sales/use, income, payroll and other tax complexities and possibly additional state tax filings. Similar consequences may result from investment and unrelated business activities that cross state lines. Moreover, there are varying rules regarding requirements to register for charitable solicitation.

We will take a practical approach to discussing state and local rules that come into play in these situations.

Our presenters, Craig Klein and Tarra Curran, will:

  • Provide an overview of the concepts of state income tax nexus, sales and use tax nexus and charitable registration requirements
  • Educate webinar participants about best practices in navigating these three areas
  • Offer practicalities in dealing with these requirements
  • Provide ideas for communicating judgments relating to these areas to those charged with governance
