James Comito Named New Leader of MHM’s Professional Standards Group

Mayer Hoffman McCann P.C.  is pleased to announce James Comito of the firm’s San Diego office as the firm’s new Director of Professional Standards. Comito takes on this role as Ernest (Ernie) Baugh, Jr. transitions into retirement.

The Professional Standards Group (PSG) is MHM’s virtual team of top technical experts for complex accounting matters. They provide consultations to engagement teams on areas such as financial instruments, derivatives and hedge accounting, leasing, going concern and revenue recognition. Additionally, the PSG is responsible for producing thought leadership and educational content for both personnel and clients on changing or new accounting standards.

Bill Hancock, President, MHM, stated “James is an excellent successor to Ernie and has been a member of the PSG since it was created in 2008. He demonstrates a deep appreciation for the accounting profession and is also very committed to keeping the firm’s shareholders and professional staff up to date on the application of changing or new accounting and auditing standards. In today’s climate of increased complexity in standards and business transactions, the PSG is a critical part of our firm.”

Comito joined MHM in 2005, following 10 years at a Big Four firm and experience in the high tech industry. He has developed deep expertise in the areas of revenue recognition, complex equity transactions, fair value and many other areas. Comito has served a number of industries, but especially clients in the technology, life science, software and manufacturing industries, as well as both public and private companies. He is a frequent public speaker on financial reporting matters and is a regular presenter in MHM’s national training programs and external Executive Education Series webinars.

Comito received his Bachelors in Accounting from San Diego State University. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
